NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's indoor track & field season gets underway Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial in Houston, Texas. The Green Wave will be part of a 14-team field, with all schools hailing from Louisiana or Texas, joining host University of Houston. The meet opens at 11 a.m. at Yeoman Field house.
"We're really excited about the track and field season. We're going to be taking a complete team and be well represented in all of the events across the board." head coach Eric Peterson said.
"Our team is very young. We have a lot of exciting young athletes. We've got a lot of talent and we're really looking forward to having the opportunity to compete against some of the other good teams in this region this early in the season."
Senior sprinter Olivia Kizzee, a national championship qualifier in the 200-meter outdoor last season, will pace the Green Wave sprinters, competing in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. She'll be joined in the 200 by freshmen Jamie Riles and Tiffanie Smith. Freshman Adiyah Crute and sophomore Kasey Rogers will join Kizzee in the 60-meter dash. Crute will also take on the 60-meter hurdles.
In the 400-meter, Tulane junior Zandria Debowles will be joined by two freshmen: Candice St. Etienne and Danielle Pensack. Junior Peggy Keplinger will be the solo entrant in the 800-meter for the Green Wave.
Coady, Gretschel, Pensack, Whitrock will team up for the distance medley relay, while the Green Wave have a pair of teams in the 4x400 relay. Junior Aiesha Brooks and freshman Jerica Banks will be joined by Riles and St. Etienne on the first team, while DeBowles, sophomore Raquelle Collins, Smith and Rogers team up on the second squad.
Senior Nicolette Taku will take on both the long and triple jumps, while Collins and junior Brree Carter will join her in the long jump field. The Green Wave's lone entry in the pole vault is freshman Kelsey Moran.
Joining Tulane in the field are Abilene Christian, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Nicholls State, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas Southern, Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas-San Antonio.
