Crimson Tide Opener Heat Sheets

NEW ORLEANS - It's been 38 days since the Tulane track and field program opened their 2011-12 season and, on January 14, the Green Wave will return to the oval for the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Head coach Eric Peterson will take 17 student-athletes to the second of six regular season indoor competitions.

Senior Kasey Rodgers will make her first appearance on the track for the Green Wave since suffering an injury at the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 1, 2011. Rodgers will run the 60-meter and 200-meter events, entering with the second fastest seeded time in the 200 and the third fastest submitted mark in the 60. The Elk Grove, Calif. native set career-best times in both events last season, running 7.35-second over 60 meters and 23.78-seconds over 200 meters, ranking second in school history at both distances.

Tulane will enter four runners in the 400-meter event, with Michelle Kreutzberg, Jamie Riles, Candice St. Etienne and Hilary Woods all competing. Riles holds the sixth fastest submitted time in the event at 54.40 and will be running her specialty event for the first time this season. This will be the first individual event of Kreutzberg's career, while Woods will compete at the 400-meter distance for the first time on the indoor track.

Multi-event specialist Tiffany Kenney will again own the fullest program card for the Green Wave, taking part in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and shot put on Saturday. Kenny jumped 4.92-meters in the long jump at the season opener and will compete in the other two events for the first time as a collegian.

 

 

Kelci Lyons will also run in her first individual event of the season on Saturday after competing as a member of the distance medley relay team at the Birmingham Ice Breaker. A native of Breaux Bridge, La., Lyons enters the 800 meter run with the second fastest entering time in event. Johanna Gretschel and Melanie Mainor will also make their first appearance of the season in Birmingham, Ala. when they take part in the mile run and high jump, respectively.
