Track & Field Nabs Pair of Top 10 Finishes at C-USA Day One

Live Scoring | Championship Central TULSA, Okla. - Redshirt freshman Julia Whitrock placed eighth in the 10,000-meter run as the 14th annual Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship opened Thursday in Tulsa, Okla. Senior Katarina Busljeta finished sixth in the hammer throw. Whitrock placed eighth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:03.16. Rice's Becky Wade won the event with a Conference USA record time of 34:41.14. Busljeta threw the hammer 53.65 meters, finishing in sixth place. Her toss was .54 meters shy of third place, and 2.79 back of East Carolina's Megan Lewis, who won the event with a 56.46 throw. Through four events in the heptathlon, freshman Kelly Curtis ranks 16th while junior Arielle Minor sits in 18th. Minor placed second in the shot put portion, with a distance of 11.50 meters. Curtis came in 12th in the event with a 9.08 throw. Curtis turned in a fifth place showing in the 100-meter hurdles portion in 15.36, while Minor came in 11th (15.75). Minor turned in a seventh-place finish i the high jump with a height of 1.54, while Curtis was 13th at 1.48 meters. In the fourth portion of the day, Curtis was 16th in the 200-meter dash in 28.54, while Minor was disqualified. The remaining three events of the heptathlon wrapping up Friday morning with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter on the docket. As a team, Tulane sits in tied for sixth with four points. The Green Wave men begin their action tomorrow.
