Solomon Kandie Has Best Outdoor Mile Run in 30 Years

Tulane University junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) had the fastest Green Wave time since 1971 in the mile run at the prestigious Penn Relays on Saturday. The junior finished the race in 4:05.52. The only Green Wave athlete to run a mile faster was Bill Brown, who rank a 4:04.34 mile in 1971. Kandie is the second fastest, joining Amos Kipyegon as the only Wave track member to run an outdoor mile in under 4:12 since 1973. In other Saturday action, junior Nathan Junius (New Orleans, La.) threw the javelin 201-04 to finish eighth in his section, while the women's 4x400 Relay team took second place in the college division with a time of 3:35.57.
On Friday, sophomore Marie Ahlander (Arsta, Sweden) won the championship of the triple jump with a career-best jump of 42-09.50, improving on her NCAA provisional qualifying time from last weekend. In addition, senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) matched his own personal best with a long jump of 25-00.75 to win his section of the event, while placing fourth in the Championship of the Americas in the triple jump with a distance of 52-09.25.
On Thursday, junior Catherine Betz (Metairie, La.) had her best throw of the season in the javelin with a heave of 156-01, a season-best effort and an NCAA provisional qualifying distance.
