Green Wave Track Competes at USM Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University was in action on Saturday at a pair of track and field events. The Green Wave sent individuals to both the USM Invitational and the Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Results from California will be available later this evening. The top effort for the Wave was a personal-best triple jump from freshman Carl White (Opelousas, La.). White leapt 52-02, topping his previous best of 51-11.75. It was his second NCAA provisional qualifying distance of the season. On the women's side, Tulane had victories from junior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario) and sophomore Theresa Maru (Kipkarren River, Kenya). James won the 100-Meter Dash with a time of 12.13, while Maru captured the 5,000-Meter Run in 18:00.59. Maru also finished second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:34.06. Other strong performances for the men included a second place finish in the 1,500-Meter Run by junior Peter Rotich (Kassabet, Kenya) and a third-place in the 400-meters by sophomore Clement Abai (Port Moresby, New Guinea). Tulane is back in action next weekend when it sends individuals to the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
