More Strong Performances for Green Wave Track
April 14, 2001
BATON ROUGE, La. - Tulane University had a pair of provisional qualifying efforts at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on Saturday. The women's 4x400 Relay team turned in a season-best time and freshman Carl White (Opelousas, La.) had a qualifying distance in the triple jump. The Wave's mile-relay team of seniors Nikelola Balogun (Los Angeles, Calif.), Quasheba Lee (Houston, Texas), Angela Milner (Modesto, Calif.), and sophomore Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden) posted a time of 3:34.92 to win the event and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships in late May. The time is also a new Tulane school record. On the men's side, White jumped 51-11.75 in the triple jump to qualify provisionally as well. White becomes the second Tulane athlete to provisionally qualify in the triple jump this season as senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) turned the trick last weekend at the Tulane Invitational. Also winning events on Saturday for the Wave were sophomore Clement Abai (Port Moresby, New Guinea) and junior Catherine Betz (Metairie, La.). Abai won the 800-meter run, while Betz was a winner in the javelin throw. Tulane returns to action on Saturday, when the Green wave sends individual participants to the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
