April 13, 2003
BATON ROUGE, La. - Jelena Jurlina led the Green Wave to 13 personal records on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Stadium. Jurlina posted collegiate bests in the shot put and the javelin. Jurlina had her fourth regional qualifying distance in the javelin with a throw of 157 feet, one inch, the top throw at the meet and the sixth-best effort in school history in that event. More impressively was her heave in the shot put pf 44 feet, three-quarters of an inch, the fourth-best mark in school history. Camilla Hatlen turned in perhaps her best day as a member of the Green Wave. The sophomore shattered her previous collegiate-best in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, one-half inch. Her previous best had been 18 feet, two and a quarter inches. In addition, Hatlen posted a career-best time in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.53. Junior Carlyne Pradieu earned second place in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:12.84, while freshman Lisa Green posted a career-best in the 1,500 meters at 4:40.96 to take third place. Also earning a third-place finish was sophomore Angel Dooley in the 100-meter dash with her season-best time of 12 seconds flat. Senior Aisha Otori had a triple jump of 39 feet, one and a quarter inches to earn third place as well. The jump was nearly a foot better than her previous best of 39 feet, one and a half inches.
The Green Wave will participate in two meets next weekend. Jurlina will compete at the prestigious Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday in the javelin and the discus, while the remainder of the team will be at the Southern Miss Invitational on Friday.
