MOBILE, Ala. - Eleven first place finishes highlighted the Tulane track and field programs day at the Jaguar Invitational on Saturday (March 31) at the Jaguar Track in Mobile, Ala. Kasey Rodgers grabbed a pair of those individual championships, Jon Frano claimed the 400 meter and Ana Ruzevic grabbed her second straight javelin crown at the meet.
The sprinting events were controlled by the Green Wave, as Rodgers won the 100 and 200 meter events and three Tulane participants finished among the top-four in the 400 meter race. In the 100, Rodgers posted her first legal mark of the season - as her first three were wind aided - and broke the tape in 11.86 to win the event. Then in the 200 meter, the senior made the turn and finished in a time of 24.38 in her first race at the distance this year.
The lone men's title of the afternoon came in the 400 meter event where Frano eclipsed his career-best time from last season's Conference USA Championships. The junior covered the one lap around the track in 48.11 to finish just ahead of teammate Christopher Arechiga who finished with a 48.82 clip.
Ruzevic uncorked the longest throw of the day in the javelin to win his second straight competition and continue her strong start to the 2012 season. The senior posted her second best throw of the season with a distance of 48.91-meters to win the event by over five meters.

Along with the first place showings, Tulane also grabbed runner-up finishes in seven events and took the bronze in on five occasions. Justyn Shackleford made the transition from football to track seamlessly and finished third in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman finished the race in a time of 56.46 in third place. Max Miller set a PR in the 1,500-meter race as he ran 4:07.10 to claim a third place showing. Estefany Cruz competed in the long jump for the first time in 2012 and claimed a runner-up finish with a leap of 5.53-meters.
The Green Wave will return to the oval in Gainesville, Fla. next weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The event will begin on Friday, April 6 and continue on Saturday, April 7.
