TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Tulane University track and field teams competed this weekend at the prestigious Alabama Relays. Junior Nathan Junius (New Orleans, La.) won the javelin throw with a 239-03, the second-best distance ever at Tulane. The javelin record of 240-4 is also held by Junius. His toss was 47-05 further than the second-place finisher. Junior Katrina Gemmell (Palmerston North, New Zealand) had a strong performance as well, taking second place in the 1,500 meters. Junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) snared third place in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 14:28.28 , the third-best time in school history in that event. The Tulane women's javelin throwers had fine days as well. Junior Catherine Betz (Metairie, La.) placed third in the event, while sophomore Sacha Junius (New Orleans, La.), the younger sister of Nathan, earned fifth place. Other strong efforts were turned in by sophomore Clement Abai (Port Moresby, New Guinea), who was seventh in the 800 and junior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario), who took seventh in the 200 Meters and 15th in the 100 Meters.
