Junior Angel Dooley won the 200 meters and took second place in the 100 meters with an NCAA Regional qualifying time.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Green Wave juniors Angel Dooley and Jelena Jurlina posted NCAA Regional Qualifying marks in the 100 meters and discus, respectively, to lead the Tulane women's track and field team at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg in the first outdoor meet of the 2004 season Saturday.
Dooley, who also won the 200 meters in a time of 24.60 seconds, finished second in the 100 in 11.71 seconds to post an early regional qualifying time. Jurlina blew away the field in the discus with a regional qualifying throw of 153-5, nearly 25 feet better than the second place finisher. Jurlina also took second place in the shot put behind Tulane teammate Helmi Leppanen as Leppanen tossed the shot 45-6.50 while Jurlina had a best mark of 43-10.50 on the day.
Tulane also claimed a win in the hammer throw as Nicole Sauer, who was eighth in the shot put and fifth in the discuss, won that event with a heave of 140-1.
Leppanen added a tie for fourth in the shot put to her busy day with a leap of 5-3, while Lissie Mo took second in the long jump, going 18-9.25, and Jillian Green was fifth in that event. In addition to Dooley's win in the 200 meters, teammate Tahira Wiggins was third in a time of 25.07.
Christina Tegbe also posted a top five finish for Tulane with a mark of 37-3 to finish third in the triple jump and sophomore Sarah Szczerbicki was fifth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:32.03.
Teams competing in the event at the Marshall Bell Track Complex included host Southern Miss, Troy State, Nicholls State and Alabama-Huntsville, among others. The Green Wave is next in action on March 20, 2004 at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee and the TSU Relays in Houston.
