Tulane Checks in at Eighth Place After Day One of C-USA Indoor Championships

HOUSTON, Texas - Senior Camilla Hatlen earned 12 points to lead Tulane University to eighth place after day one of the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Carl Maddox Field House on the campus of the University of Houston. Tulane finished the first day with 15 points, while Houston leads after day one with 36 points. USF (30 points) was in second place, while Cincinnati (24), UAB (22) and Charlotte (18) round out the top five. Hatlen earned second place in the pentathlon by tallying 3,634 points in the five-event competition: 60-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and the 800-meter run. She collected eight points towards the Green Wave team score for the second-place effort. In addition, Hatlen earned fifth place in the long jump for four points. The Green Wave also added three more points in the long jump as senior Lissie Mo took seventh place and Marilyn Sauls finished in eighth place. Sophomore Gloria Asumnu also had an outstanding first day, placing first in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter dash and second in the opening round of the 200-meter dash. Her time of 7.46 seconds in the 60 and 24.40 in the 200 were her best marks of the season. The second and final day of the event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the Championship scheduled to complete at 5 p.m.
