Green Wave Competes at LSU Twilight Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane men's and women's track and field competed at the LSU Twilight Invitational on Friday evening. The Green Wave highlight of the meet was the triple jump of freshman Carl White (Opelousas, La.), who narrowly missed an NCAA automatic qualifying. White's triple jump of 16.10 meters was the top collegiate mark in the meet and NCAA Provisional Qualifying distance for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. A first-place finish was also turned in by junior Clement Abai (Port Moresby, New Guinea), who won the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.54. Junior Delando Davis (New Orleans, La.) had a strong effort in the 60-meter high hurdles, winning his heat in the preliminaries and then finishing fourth at 8.06 in the finals. Junior Peter Rotich (Kasabet, Kenya) camein second in the mile-run with a time of 4:24.97, while sophomore Anthony Lagat (Eldama-Ravine, Kenya) was third in the 3,000 meters at 8:43.25. For the Wave women, junior Katrina Gemmell (Plamerston North, New Zealand) was second in the 800 meters at 2:16.59, while senior Nikelola Balogun (Los Angeles, Calif.) was third in the 200 meters at 24.95. In the long jump, sophomore Marie Ahlander (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman Jillion Green (Houston, Texas) tied for third with distances of 5.83 meters. Tulane returns to action on Friday, with opening day action at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Houston.
