Track Teams Perform Well at Canon Classic
Feb. 11, 2001 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Tulane men's and women's track and field teams had another strong performance at the Canon IV Classic, hosted by Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Marie Ahlander (Stockholm, Sweden) won the triple jump, meeting the automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Ahlander leapt 13.23 meters to win the triple jump. The NCAA automatic qualifying standard is 13.15 meters. On the men's side, senior Noel Comrie (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) won the triple jump as well, with a distance of 15.49 meters. Tulane's women's 4x400 Relay team met the provisional qualifying standard with a time of 3:38.02. That team is composed of junior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario), senior Nikelola Balogun (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior Angela Milner (Modesto, Calif.) and sophomore Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden). Petersen won the 400 meters with a time of 54.40, while James was Tulane's top finisher in the 60-meter dash. Other strong efforts on the men's side came from junior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) in the 3,000 meters and junior Delando Davis (New Orleans, La.) in the 60-meter high hurdles. Tulane returns to action on Friday, competing at the LSU Twilight Invitational. -- 30 --
