HOUSTON, Texas - Helmi Leppanen registered a second-place finish in the shot put to lead 19 Tulane individuals in action on Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at the Yeoman Field House on the campus of the University of Houston.
Leppanen, who is Tulane's record-holder in the shot put, notched a season-best effort of 47 feet, one and three-quarters inches in that event on Friday as 11 individuals recorded personal records.
Freshman Shanon Beelendorf, in her collegiate debut in the high jump, leapt five feet, four and a half inches, the third-best mark in Tulane history. Beelendorf also had a personal-best in the 200-meter dash while helping the 4x400 relay team to fifth place.
Senior Camilla Hatlen had a personal-best effort in the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 11 and a quarter inches to take third place in that event, while classmate Sarah Bumby broke six minutes in the indoor mile for her first time.
Other personal records were turned in by Taneekwa Ross (60 meters), Tyquana Livingston (60 meters and 200 meters), Jill Shriver (5,000 meters), Lauren Swenson (5,000 meters), Christina Tegbe (long jump) and Brianne Darragh (shot put).
Tulane is back in action on Friday evening at the LSU Invitational.
