Tulane's record-holder in the javelin and the shot put (indoor and outdoor). A 10-time all-conference selection and an NCAA National Qualifer in 2002. Has one outdoor season of eligibility remaining. A standout student as well, was named to the Academic All-District team this spring.

AS A SENIOR (2004-05)
Broke her own school record in the shot put at the C-USA Championships (5/14), finishing third with a throw of 49-09.25. Also had her season-best javelin throw of 141-11 at the C-USA Championships (5/14). Qualifed for Regionals in both events, finishing 15th in the javelin and 21st in the shot put. INDOOR: Completed her indoor elgibility by finishing fourth in the shot put at the C-USA Championships with a season-best throw of 48-02.

AS A JUNIOR (2003-04)
An NCAA Regional Qualifer in the shot put, finishing in 13th place (5/28). Earned second-place in the javelin and third in the shot put at the C-USA Championships (5/14). Established the Tulane school record in the shot put with a heave of 48-04.50 at the LSU Relays (3/27). Had a season-best javelin effort of 137-09 at the C-USA Championships. Her top high jump of 5-04.25 ranks fifth in Tulane history. INDOOR: Earned sixth place in the shot put with a season-best throw of 45-05.75 at the Conference USA Championships.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2002-03)
Competed in just one meet before having surgery and missing the remainder of the season. INDOOR: Battled a shoulder injury throughout the season, but still finished third at the C-USA Championships (3/1) in the shot put with an effort of 46 feet, five and a half inches.

AS A FRESHMAN (2001-02)
The Green Wave's top performer in 2001-02. Qualified for the NCAA Championships in the javelin, finishing 15th. Named the Louisiana Freshman of the Year in track and field, while collecting All-Louisiana honors in three events: javelin, shot put and heptathlon. Collected 20 points at the Conference USA Championships while establishing a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 165-07 to take first place (5/10). Her best effort in the shot put, 45-06.50, earned fifth place at the C-USA Championship (5/11), while her school record heptathlon total of 4,649 points nabbed fourth place. INDOOR: Set a school record in the shot put (48-07.25) and finished third in that event at the C-USA Championship (2/23). Also competed in the long jump and high jump, posting bests of 17-04.25 at the C-USA meet (2/22) and 5-01.75 at the Razorback Invitational (2/2), respectively.

Competed for the last four years at the Finland Championships (indoor and outdoor) in the shot put and heptathlon. Placed first in the shot put at the Finland Championships (22 year olds) in 2001 with a throw of 14.31 meters. Also competed at the Students World Championships in Shanghai in 1998.

Full name is Helmi Tuulikki Leppanen. Born January 20, 1981 in Kerava, Finland. The daughter of Anita and Olli Leppanen. An honor student who earned her degree in May of 2005 with a double major in finance and marketing and a minor in Spanish. A four-time selection to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll and a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal for 2003-04 and 2004-05.
