Tulane volleyball is encouraging fans to wear white shirts - preferably the Devon Walker 18 shirts - on Friday night to their home match against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. for the "White Out Devlin for Devon" at Devlin Fieldhouse.

Tulane volleyball is having one of the best seasons in program history, and with Devlin Fieldhouse sure to be packed against an in-state Conference USA opponent in Louisiana Tech, the Green Wave have asked that fans pay tribute to Walker, a former Green Wave football player who was injured in a game at Tulsa last season.

Donations will be accepted at the entrances of Devlin Fieldhouse, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Devon's Den, a privately funded project providing needed materials and services for the care of Walker.

In addition to fans wearing their white Walker shirts, the Tulane Green Wave gift shop will have new Devon Walker merchandise on sale. Proceeds from merchandise sales also go towards Devon's Den.

This past weekend was a special one, capped off with a 14-7 victory over Conference USA West Division rival Tulsa on Saturday--a team the Green Wave hadn't beaten as conference opponents. On the eve of that game was something more amazing, the dedication of Devon's Den, which was completed in August of 2013. It was an intimate setting of those who were major benefactors to Devon and his Den, and it was truly a wonderful night with friends and family. Thank you to Rick and Brenda Dickson, Larry Gibbs and Gibbs Construction, Robert and Cathy West, John and Laura Williams and the entire Williams Architects team including Terry Parker, Juan Lara, Lindsey Madary, and Rachel Smith.

We'd also like to give a special shout out to FAU Athletics and their SAAC team. FAU may be our foe on the football field this weekend for 4 quarters in 60 minutes, but we'd like to give a special thank you to the Owls. They will be taking donations for Devon Walker and Devon's Den at the door when they host Tulane on Saturday. Again, Thank You to the FAU Owls!

Tulane Athletics, SAAC Look to White-Out Campus on Homecoming Weekend for Devon Walker

Tulane student-athletes and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) continue to celebrate Devon Walker's return to school this semester. In an effort to raise awareness for Devon and his cause, each of the Green Wave's student-athletes, along with TU's SAAC group, are asking the campus and all Tulane students, staff and faculty to show support by sporting Devon Walker gear on Friday, Oct. 4 and during the homecoming game against North Texas on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The goal is to make a grass roots level movement by selling Devon Walker T-shirts, new bumper stickers, bracelets, etc. on the quad during the week prior to the Homecoming weekend. Tulane student-athletes will be posting this information on Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites and are asking others to pass along this information.

A table will be set up on the quad with Devon Walker items, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 4. Items available for purchase include t-shirts, bumper stickers and bracelets. The items will also be sold at the Superdome during the homecoming game.

To purchase Devon's new bumper stickers, please contact Caroline Thornton: cthornt1@tulane.edu

Former Tulane football player Devon Walker was all smiles and took center stage in the inaugural First Down Divas Football Clinic on June 11 at The Crystal Palace in Harvey, La. Walker, who was accompanied by his family, answered questions from the media and enjoyed a night filled with great football stories and trivia.

A standing room only crowd of 300 women joined Tulane head football coach Curtis Johnson and his wife Angel, as well as, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, assistant head coach Joe Vitt and players Lance Moore, Marques Colston, Jonathan Vilma, Cameron Jordan, Victor Butler, Will Smith and Malcolm Jenkins.

For nearly three hours, the group enjoyed great food, a silent auction, videos, music and finally a very in depth question-and-answer session with coaches Johnson, Payton and Vitt and each of the Saints players.

All proceeds from the event went to the Devon Walker Fund for the completion of Devon's Den, a privately funded project providing needed materials and services for an addition of a bedroom and bathroom to the Walker home in Destrehan, La.

A senior member of the Green Wave Football team, majoring in biochemistry, Devon sustained a severe spinal cord injury while playing in the Tulane vs. Tulsa footb'all game in Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 8, 2012. To date Devon's injuries require comprehensive 24-hour care.

Recently, Eric Adelson from Yahoo! Sports paid Devon Walker a visit. Here, he writes his meeting with Devon and recounts Devon's infectious spirit and hope moving forward. Simply a beautiful and well-written story. Here is an excerpt from the story with quotes from AD Rick Dickson and Devon Walker himself...

"He represents the best in all of us - what Tulane is and what it stands for," Dickson says. "His persona, his spirit, his accomplishments, his resolve - all those things are captured in Devon."
Captured in Devon, and captured by Devon. "They give you the worst-case scenario, but there's always hope," Walker says. "I have all the hope in the world."

Dear Tulane Supporters:

Sean Payton, Darren Sproles and Lance Moore, of the New Orleans Saints, are our featured speakers along with a few other surprise guests! The evening will feature great food, beer, wine, champagne, a live auction and great door prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Devon Walker Fund, specifically Devon's Den.

We hope that with your generous support, we can help offset some of Devon's medical/living expenses. Devon's Den is the addition of a bedroom and bathroom to the Walker home in Destrehan, LA. The addition will include the technology necessary for Devon's health and safety as well as enable him to continue his course work at Tulane.
