Williams, Kaplan Guide Santa Barbara Foresters to NBC World Series Title

WICHITA, Kan. – Tulane baseball rising seniors Lex Kaplan and Hunter Williams helped guide their collegiate summer league squad, the Santa Barbara Foresters, to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series Title in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday night, as the Foresters defeated the Hays Larks, 6-2.

The Foresters, who recently captured the California Collegiate League Championship, won its sixth title in the 82-year history of the NBC World Series, the most for an individual team.

The Foresters went 6-0 in the tournament on its way to claim the title. In six games, Williams hit .375 with three runs, nine hits, one double, one home run, nine RBI and two walks. He had three multi-hit games across the tournament, including two three-hit contests.

Kaplan hit safely in his final five contests in the tournament, finishing up the week with a .458 batting average to go along with three runs, 11 hits, one double, five RBI, three walks and two stolen bases. Kaplan had four multi-hit games across the week.

The National Baseball Congress of Wichita is an organization of 15 amateur and semi-professional baseball leagues operating in the United States and Canada. Since its founding in 1934 by Hap Dumont, it has conducted an annual North American championship tournament among its members, The National Baseball Congress World Series, held at Wichita's Lawrence-Dumont Stadium annually since 1935.
