Massey is named to the second team
OMAHA, Neb. – The postseason accolades for Tulane baseball's Ross Massey continue to pour in, as the rookie from Baton Rouge was named a Second Team Freshman All-American by D1Baseball.com, announced the web site on Wednesday.
Â
The honor is the fourth for Massey so far this summer. Massey was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, becoming the first Freshman All-American for Tulane since 2013 before being named a second teamer by Baseball America as well as Perfect Game.
Â
Massey went 10-3 with a 2.29 ERA in 18 games with 12 starts as a rookie during the 2016 season. The Baton Rouge native logged 90.1 innings while posting 51 strikeouts. He led Tulane in wins and ERA, while ranking second in innings pitched while becoming the first 10-game winner at Tulane in a single season since 2005 when Brian Bogusevic (13), Micah Owings (12) and J.R. Crowel (10) posted double-digit victories.
Â
The freshman has had a highly decorated season, as he was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team at the conclusion of the regular season before being named to the NCAA Oxford All-Regional Team for his solid performance against Utah on June 5.
Â
Massey is the 22nd Freshman All-American at Tulane, joining Ron Marigny, Tookie Spann, Gerald Alexander, Ivan Zweig, Kris Didion, Chad Sutter, Jake Gautreau, James Jurries, Nick Bourgeois, Tony Giarratano, Michael Aubrey, Gerald Clark, Crowel, Bogusevic, Brad Emaus, Warren McFadden, Rob Segedin, Jeremy Schaffer, Blake Crohan, Alex Facundus and Ian Gibaut. Gibaut was the last winner at Tulane, picking up the award in 2013.
