Duester joins five drafted Tulane players from class of 2016
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane baseball's Patrick Duester has signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced the organization on Monday.
Â
Duester becomes the 33rd player in Tulane history to sign a free agent contract.
Â
The Titusville, Florida, native just completed his senior season with the Green Wave after transferring in from St. John's River State prior to the 2015 campaign. In two years at Tulane, Duester went 7-7 with four saves to go along with a 3.62 ERA in 44 games with 12 starts. Duester was a part of seven shutouts during his career that spanned 104.1 innings while posting 94 strikeouts. He finishes his career tied for second in school history in most combined shutouts (7) and tied for 14th in most games finished (18).
Â
Duester joins Jake Rogers (Astros, Third Round), Stephen Alemais (Pirates, Third Round), Trevor Simms (Diamondbacks, 32nd Round), Emerson Gibbs (Brewers, 33rd Round) and Alex Massey (Royals, 36th Round) as players from the 2016 roster who have moved onto professional baseball.
Â
While the Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the two current MLB teams that have not drafted a player from Tulane, they have picked up a player in free agency as the organization signed Scott Bell after the 1998 season. Duester becomes the first Tulane player to sign a free agent deal since 2011 when Conrad Flynn and Drew Zizinia inked deals with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
