Entering her fifth year as assistant athletic director for media relations, Donna Turner directs the public relations and publicity efforts for Tulane?s 16-sport program.
Turner came to Tulane after a brief stint as Director of Media Relations and Publicity at the Women?s Tennis Association. She served as assistant athletic director for sports information at the University of Houston from 1994-99.
From 1988-94, Turner was assistant and then associate sports information director at Florida State University, where she was the primary contact for the Seminoles? nationally-ranked football and baseball teams. She handled all media requests and publicity for Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward and the 1993 national championship team. Turner also worked with award winners Marvin Jones and Derrick Brooks at Florida State.
Her experience includes working at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta and in press operations at the 1999 NCAA Men?s Basketball Final Four and numerous NCAA men?s basketball regionals. Turner has been media relations director for six NCAA Baseball regionals. She served as the local media coordinator for the 2004 NCAA Women?s Final Four hosted by Tulane at the New Orleans Arena.
A native of Gainesville, Fla., she received a bachelor?s degree in communications from FSU in 1985 and a master?s in sports administration from Ohio University in 1987.
