Maria Ochoa joined the Tulane Athletic Department in December of 2003, accepting the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administrative Services and Senior Woman Administrator. In that position, she is responsible for the supervision of six Green Wave sports programs and oversees all aspects of the student service areas, including compliance, academic support, athletic training, equipment, and strength and conditioning.
Ochoa spent the previous 12 years at Western Carolina University where she was the assistant athletic director and SWA for four and a half years. She began her career in athletics as an assistant athletic trainer at WCU in 1992, and was promoted to head athletic trainer in 1996. In addition to her duties in athletics, Ochoa was a member of the faculty from 1999-2002 in the College of Health and Human Performances.
Prior to her stint Western Carolina, Ochoa was an athletic trainer at Wofford College while working on her masterís degree at Converse College.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ochoa completed her degree in exercise and sports science from the University of Florida in 1990 and earned her masterís in education from Converse College in 1992. She is a certified athletic trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
