Johnny Arthurs became Tulane's third basketball All-American when he was named to the Helms Athletic Foundation All-American team. Arthurs follows in the footsteps of two other Green Wave greats, Mel Payton, Tulane's first player to reach the select list in (1951), and Jim Kerwin, who earned All-American, Arthurs set an all-time Tulane career scoring record of (1,501) points, eclipsing Kerwin's mark of (1,462). Arthurs also set a new career field goal standard of (614), and broke single season records with (666) points, a (25.6) scoring average, and (277) field goals. Arthurs officially finished seventeenth among the nation's leading scorers last season according to figurers just released by the NCAA. He helped Tulane reach tenth place in team offense with an (88.2) team scoring average.
