Andy Massey

Andy Massey is in his eighth season as the head athletic trainer at Tulane University and his fifth full time season with the Green Wave's baseball team.

Massey's responsibilities at Tulane include the medical care of student-athletes for 16 intercollegiate sports, which includes assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, budgeting and drug testing. He also supervises a staff of 10 athletic trainers.

Massey, 51, came to Tulane in 2006 after spending the previous 16 years at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., as the head athletic trainer (1990-2001), a lecturer for the Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science (HLES, 1990-2006), and as the injury rehabilitation coordinator for the student health service center (2006).

During his time at Appalachian State, he also served in administrative roles, including the administrative assistant to the chair of the department of HLES (2005-06) and was the interim associate athletic director for student-athlete welfare from 2004-05.

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Massey earned both his bachelor's and master's degree from The Citadel. He received his bachelor's degree in history in 1983 and earned his master's degree in teaching with a minor in Biology in 1985.

Massey broke into athletic training as a graduate assistant at his alma mater from 1983-85 and then taught and served as teacher/athletic trainer at North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 1985-86.

He began his service of collegiate student-athletes at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., where he spent five years (1986-1990).

Massey is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Southeastern Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association.

Massey and his wife, Sara, reside in New Orleans with their two daughters: Angela (19), a sophomore at Boston University, and Meredith (22), an alumnus of Tulane (2013).
