Dear Green Wave Fans,
Please join me as we welcome Hayley Beavis as the first head women's bowling coach for the Green Wave. Coach Beavis comes to Tulane after spending the last two seasons at Webber International University in Florida, where she served as a graduate assistant coach for the program during the 2010-11 season.
Our women's bowling program will begin its inaugural season next year. Bowling competition will take place at Rock n' Bowl, so get your cool new Green Wave bowling shirts and start practicing your dance steps as it promises to be a lot of fun.
Congratulations are also in order for junior men's basketball player Kendall Timmons and senior women's basketball standout Danielle Nunn who were named Tulane's male and female Student-Athletes of the Year; plus senior women's volleyball player Lindsey Shepard and cross country/track & field student-athlete Mike Mainguy were named Tulane's male and female Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The honors were announced at our end of year awards banquet last night following a vote by the head coaches and athletics staff.
Looking ahead to the university's Commencement scheduled for May 12 at the New Orleans Convention Center, we've got 43 student-athletes who will receive their degrees at the ceremony. I am so happy for them. They have been role models as student athletes, in the classroom and in the community.
Our nationally ranked women's golf team will continue their season at the NCAA Central Regionals at Notre Dame May 5-7. The 14th ranked Green Wave is making its eighth trip to the NCAA Regional since 2000, but is making its first-ever appearance in the Central Regional. We wish them the best as they hope to advance to their third straight NCAA Championship.
Just because the school year is winding down doesn't mean we're slowing down here in athletics. Be sure and support the golf team and the baseball team as they continue to be in the swing of things. Pun intended!
