Tulane got its first Conference USA victory of the season and it came at a gut-check moment. The Green Wave lost two starters (point guard Kevin Sims and guard Aaron Holmes) in the past week to wrist injuries, and the team wasn't exactly setting the world on fire offensively with them. But a combined team effort headlined by shooting guard Kris Richard's 23 points, four rebounds and four steals pushed Tulane to a 72-58 win over Rice in front of 1,623 at Fogelman Arena.

The Tulane men's basketball team received bad news Monday when it discovered senior point guard Kevin Sims' wrist injury was, in fact, a broken arm. He suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right ulna bone in the first half of Tulane's loss to UAB on Saturday.

Tulane men's basketball: No Aaron Holmes tonight against UAB

Tulane starting guard Aaron Holmes will not play tonight. He is standing on the sideline with a heavily-wrapped right wrist. Holmes injured it in Friday's practice on the rim. Green Wave spokesman Brian Miller said X-Rays proved negative for a break, but the Tulane medical staff will do further testing on the arm on Monday.

With its leading scorer watching from the bench, Tulane's nine-game winning streak was snapped Friday night at Fogelman Arena. The Green Wave committed 27 turnovers in a 70-68 loss to Houston in the Conference USA opener for both teams.

The Tulane men's basketball team dropped its Conference USA opener at Tulsa on Wednesday evening 73-59. It was out-rebounded 44-29 and shot 31 percent from the field for the game. Asim McQueen was 4-of-13 from the field but free throws brought him to a team-high 16 points and he added six rebounds.
