Dear Green Wave Fans,
As usual, all of us in the athletics department are going a mile a minute this spring. First, a big thank you to everyone who participated in the 3rd Annual Tulane 5K on Saturday. Every year we have a bigger crowd and this year we had more than 400 fans, friends, coaches, athletics staff and student-athletes take part as either a sponsor or participant. It's a great cause and it got us closer to bringing our Tulane Athletics Fund (TAF) donor base to a record level of 3,500.
On April 1, Tulane dedicated the Tulane Victory Bell and announced the Bobby Boudreau Spirit Award. Most Green Wave fans either knew my friend Bobby or remember seeing him at a Tulane game; he didn't miss many in the last 50 years. Bobby passed away last year on the day the Saints won the Super Bowl; he would have loved that victory but he loved Tulane athletics even more. If you have a chance, pass by the bell on McAlister Place; it's a beauty and I predict it will be ringing a lot more frequently in the next few months.
I've written before about the NCAA certification process and now all of you have a chance to participate by giving us some feedback. Tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Kendall Cram Room of the Lavin-Bernick Center, Professor Dick Culbertson, who is chairing the committee that is writing the report, will hold a town hall meeting and that's your opportunity to weigh in on the report, which can be seen here: tulane.edu/ncaa
There's also one more thing I'd like to ask of you. We are looking for the newest members of the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame. Nominations need to be in by April 30. I know there are some former student-athletes who are near and dear to your heart, and we'd love to hear more about those special men and women who wore the Tulane uniform. More details about the process and the nomination form are here: www.tulanegreenwave.com/genrel/033111aaa.html
While all of us are on the go as the school year winds down, we're never too busy to hear your thoughts on how we are doing. I look forward to seeing you at golf, tennis, baseball or the football spring game on April 16!
