Dear Green Wave Fans,
Whew! What a week it's been. We're all taking a deep breath here in athletics after the very successful NCAA Southeast Regionals, which Tulane University was proud to host at the New Orleans Arena. I want to give a big congratulations to our staff who helped make it happen. It was an exciting event for the fans and the teams from Butler University, the University of Florida, Brigham Young University and the University of Wisconsin.
Butler will advance to the NCAA Final Four Tournament in Houston. We have a group of Tulane athletics folks going to Houston to observe those operations as we prepare for next year's Final Four here in New Orleans. We will also send a team to Indianapolis to prepare for the 2013 Women's Final Four that will be held here in the Big Easy.
It is a great honor for Tulane and New Orleans to be hosting next year's top collegiate basketball tournament. It's a lot of work but very rewarding for our university and our city. It was a full-on effort from many organizations: the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, the New Orleans Hornets, the New Orleans Saints, the City of New Orleans, the Louisiana Superdome (SMG), the Convention Center and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. We had volunteers from universities here in Louisiana and as far away as Tulsa and Memphis. What a wonderful team effort it was.
Meantime, back on our campus, spring football practice is in full swing and the guys are working extremely hard. I hope by now you have had a chance to look at The Playbook, which touches upon the additional strengths of our program and our players. Next year's team is more experienced and they are fired up about the direction of the program. I urge you to read The Playbook if you haven't already and submit your feedback online at www.tulaneplaybook.com or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will continue to keep you apprised of our plans for the football program.
The weather has been beautiful here in New Orleans and I urge you to come out to Greer and cheer on the Tulane baseball team, which takes on UNO tonight. And don't forget the 3rd Annual Tulane Athletics 5K fun run/walk will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 9. The course is a little over three miles and will take place throughout our beautiful uptown campus. So stretch those legs and join me next Saturday.
