Dear Green Wave Fans,

Our student-athletes are an inspiration, juggling the demands of competing with studying, always giving it their all. I want to give a shout out to some student-athletes who turned in stellar performances recently. First, Green Wave swimmer Kayla Alf-Huynh deserves props for being named C-USA Swimmer of the Week last week. Kayla is the first Tulane swimmer to do so since 2004.

Back on dry land, the Green Wave women have been impressive in track and field. Six - that's right - six Green Wave athletes posted personal best performances at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas last week.

I think most of you know, this year we are celebrating 100 seasons of Green Wave basketball. We've been celebrating the teams and players of the past and we'll wrap it up this week. Tomorrow we will honor the stellar players from the `90s when we take on UCF. On Saturday, we applaud the players from 2000 on and name our All Century Team as the Wave plays Marshall. I know Coach Conroy and his team would love to have you in Fogelman for both contests.

Our nationally ranked women's golf team has teed off its spring schedule. The #14th ranked Green Wave is at the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. They started play on Sunday and currently sit in third place. They will finish up today.

Spring in New Orleans is perfect for golf and baseball and so far the weather report is favorable for this Friday when the Green Wave opens its baseball season against Sam Houston State at Turchin. I'm told we might have temps in the 70s that day so the weather should be nice.

Actually, I have quite a bit of personal experience with baseball. I've built dugouts and sat in them, too (lifetime .247 average, although for power) and there's not a bad seat in our ballpark. Come check it out this weekend.

By the way, this year's team is ranked #25 by Baseball America. The Conference USA Coaches ranked us fifth in the conference. Quite a difference but I guess that's why you play the game. Let's see which prognosticator was right. It should be a fun season.

Roll Wave,

Rick Dickson
